This department is the state agency that is responsible for making sure that each of the local elementary and secondary public school systems are implementing the special education laws and programs.    They serve as a resource about special education and special needs to the local school districts and  to the RI Department of Elementary and Secondary Education .  They also help develop collaborative programs between other state agencies such as the RI Office of Rehabilitation Services, the Rhode Island Department of Health, and the Rhode Island Department of Human Services.
You may call this office to find out who the state consultant is to your school district, who may be able to help you locate other resources.
